Watchmen The Movie

As I was surfing for the movies a-coming into our local cinemas, I stumbled upon "Watchmen". The Trailer sure looks interesting enough. The movie is based on yet another comic book, with plenty of superheroes. The setting of the movie is in 1985, during Nixon's still president of the US. The crux of the story is about plot to discredit and murder the various superheroes that exist during the story's setting in an alternate 1985.

The plot summary put up at IMDB read....

"Watchmen" is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?"

You can watch the Trailer at the official website of the Watchmen there or below and watch it below to see if it is interesting enough for you :). It is coming to our local theaters from next Thursday onwards I reckon.

I went to read more about the movie at Wikipedia and the more I read, the more interesting the movie looked. There are plenty of characters in the plot with vigilantes and villains abound to satisfy all personal preferences. The superheroes vigilantes include

- Rorschach - Walter Joseph Kovacs, the superhero with the trench coat, fedora and a mask, who continued his vigilante activities after they have been outlawed;

- The Comedian - Edward Morgan Blake, one of the most active vigilante of the group, who is commissioned by the US Government;

- Doctor Manhattan - Dr Jon Osterman, a superhero with genuine powers who is blue in color, and is able to see the future and alter matter all the way down to a subatomic level;

- Ozymandias - Adrian Veidt, "The World's Smartest Man" and a retired superhero who has since made his identity public;

- Silk Spectre II - Laurie Juspeczyk - daughter of a retired superheroine Silk Spectre - Sally Jupiter, youngest of the Watchmen who retired when she became involved with Dr Manhattan;

- Nite Owl II - Daniel Dreiberg - inspired by the original Nite Owl - Hollis Mason, Dan used his skills as an inventor to become more gadget driven Nite Owl. However, he retired when vigilantes were outlawed.

You can read more about these vigilantes' bio at the Watchmen's official website here.

As for the villians, they were not mentioned in the official website but at Wiki's site, they mentioned the following other characters :-

- Moloch the Mystic - Edgar Jacobi - an elderly rehabilitated criminal, know when he was younger as an underworld kingpin and magician;

- Mothman - Byron Lewis - who is not the main focus character but one who appears in flashbacks;

- Dollar Bill - a first generation crimefighter who caught his cape in a revolving door during a bank robbery and was shot to death; and

- The Big Figure - the dwarf crime boss whom Rorschach put in prison.

Perhaps there are no real villains to this story but lets go watch this movie to find out :)

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I was having lunch with some of my colleagues this after and we were talking about the movies that are currently showing in the theaters. At the same time, we were also talking about some of the movies past. One of the one that we totally missed out was Transformers. I only remembered it when I was driving back. The sequel to last year's Transformers is called Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen.

This bit has been extracted from Wikipedia - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an upcoming science fiction film due for release on June 26, 2009. It is the sequel to 2007's Transformers, which was the first live action Transformers film. Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return respectively as director and executive producer, while Shia LaBeouf reprises the role of Sam Witwicky, the human caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons. The film introduces many more robots and the scope has been expanded to numerous countries, the most important of which is Egypt.

This is the trailer from YouTube.

These are the latest 2 video updates of the Movie. I so love their team song :)

Movie - Ip Man

I went to watch Ip Man last nite. In fact, I was so kiasu about not getting the tickets that I rushed off to Sunway TGV on Wednesday immediately after work to get the tickets. Got very good seats as I think some may not have remembered that Ip Man started screening yesterday.

It is one of the better shows I have seen this entire year, if not the best one for me. The movie was so rich with everything for every one. Naturally, it is a movie rich with the technical kung fu stuff, but it had history and human values in it too. There was a little subtle humor thrown in too. It was truly a movie worth watching again and again. I am going to wait for the original DVD to come out to buy and keep. None of the el cheepo pirated one for me here :D.

Pop by to my earlier posts Ip Man - The Wing Chun Master to Bruce Lee for the Trailer and some other info.

I have yet another YouTube Video to share here

For those who are fans of Donnie Yen, this is one his man websites... enjoy!

Ip Man - The Wing Chun Master to Bruce Lee

When I was at the cinema recently watching that terrible "Quarantine" movie, I saw this poster at the foyer which read "Ip Man".. and being the banana person that I am, I pronounced it as I read it.."Ip Man" and I could not have been more wrong. The trailer of the movie was shown and only then I said to myself "Hey, I know this person. He is the Wing Chun Master of Bruce Lee and his name is actually pronounced as Yip Mun.. and not Ip Man.. bah!".

The trailer that was show in the cinema

Went to surf around the net to find out more information and there are a lot of things written about Ip Man and Wing Chun on the internet. Apart from checking Wikipedia, I also found these few interesting websites.

This is the official ipman movie website. The loading of the site after you have selected the language preference is great.. especially if you have a slower line. You might be able to learn some moves from that little cartoon man whilst the page is loading up :D. Cool page when it eventually got loaded up on my PC.

Then there is the WingChunNews. com site which is apparently the site to be at if you are looking of news, happenings, announcements in the Wing Chun World. This is extracted from WingChunNews page.

Founded by Yim Wing-chun; took root in the hands of Leung Chun; blossomed under Ip Man…’ Ip Man is adapted from the life story of Ip Man, the grand master of the Wing Chun style of kung fu and sifu (master) of legendary kung fu superstar Bruce Lee.

Wing Chun has a history of more than 200 years. It was founded by Yim Wing Chun, took root in the hands of Leung Chun, and prospered with Ip Man. The art of Wing Chun has now become very popular with martial arts enthusiasts, especially overseas. It is a traditional Chinese martial art with a formidable reputation internationally.

Wing Chun Kuen is characterised by close body combat, requiring practitioners to show speed and power. Its Chi Sao or “sticking hands” is more similar to modern day combat skills and has a rich feel of genuine strikes. This is also why Ip Man differs from the dazzingly romantic and purely fictional style of previous martial art movies. Its explosive punches and aggressive close-range combat offer a new thrill never experienced by modern day audiences.

The story of Wing Chun began in the 1920s and 30s, in wartorn China. Ip Man was martial art’s unyielding follower, devoted whole-heartedly to the free learning of wushu. The fight to be top between the Wushu schools in the southern and northern regions of China had not stopped him having goodwill matches with other practitioners. Nationalistic bad feelings and racial hatred had not lessened his respect for Japanese kung fu warriors. In this great era of hatreds and tragedies, Ip focused only on wushu. His enthusiasm for martial arts saw him having devastating street fights with various elite practitioners.

To date, there have neither been movies nor publications about Ip Man. This movie will be the first important record of the master’s life. Ip’s persistent devotion to Wing Chun is a classic example of the love and respect shown to wushu and the freedom and spirit it represents. This movie will see the making of a modern wushu master representative of Chinese people worldwide. Ip Man is a concept, a spirit, a way of thinking – and it represents a new peak in Hong Kong’s wushu movies.

The website can be found at
http://www.ipman-movie.com

This is the Promo Video which is slightly longer than the Trailer.

I also found this short little video with some stills of the real man Ip Mun.. not Donnie Yen.

Have Another Poochie Melting Moment or Two

It is my lunch time now. Quickly went into YouTube to see what the movie Quill was all about. I am sure it must be another one of those tear jerkers. The first video which I clicked was this one. Aaawwwww... a melting moment... a puppy that will melt the hardest heart..Have a look...since it lunch time now.. so, it should be ok :D

Quill ~ Guide Dog from YouTube.

"All About My Dogs" another poochie film which Angie mentioned. Most of the sites that I visited did not have the synopsis for this film except for HK Flix. This was copied from HK Flix " Yamada (Shidou Nakamura, "Be With You") is an ad man who had a bad setback on a dog food advertisement, thus he recalls having a dog buddy Pochi when he was a child. They met in an open ground and developed true friendship with each other, but an unpredictable accident made them apart. Then Pochi started his journey to find Yamada... "

All About My Dog - YouTube

I will go to Speedy Shop this weekend and try to look for these videos. The only problem with people at the Speedy Shop (also depending on which outlet) are not too well versed with film titles or CD titles or even artiste names. JW and I still laugh about the time we went into the Speedy outlet at the Weld and asked for "Andrew Lloyd Webber's" CD collections. The guy at Speedy went " Andrew ?? Paper". "No. No..Andrew Lloyd Webber". After repeating about 4 times, the guy asked "You want Andrew Boyyed Paper ah?". We said "Never mind" and left the shot.

10 Promises To My Dog

There is a Japanese movie in town, entitled "10 Promises To My Dog". I went to see it yeseterday and even before I watched it, I already expected it to be one of those "Kleenex required" movies. But I didn't realize that it would be a "whole box of Kleenex required" type of movie. I have this love-hate relationship with movies of this genre. I love them because they talk about real life and the characters (especially the non-human ones) are normally so cute that you just want to hug them to bits type. But I hate it when they make my eyes and nose leak.

This is the synopsis of the movie taken from MovieExclusive.com.

Akari is a 14-year-old schoolgirl living in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido. One day, a puppy wanders into her yard, looking lost and frightened. She is a Golden Retriever with white paw markings. Akari names her Socks. Akari's mother consents to her keeping the dog but only after she agrees to keep 10 Promises to Socks . Akari enthusiastically assents and the two begin their journey of growing up together. Akari finds herself having to overcome many changes and challenges: the tragedy of her mother's death, father's sudden resignation, coming-of-age, first romantic feelings, career ambitions and her independence. But at every step, Socks is there to provide unquestioning love and support.

This film was inspired by the poem "Ten Commandments to Dog Ownership" by an anonymous author. The poem reads like this.

    I

My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years.
Any separation from you will be painful for me.
Remember that before you aquire me.

    II

Give me time to understand what you want from me.

    III

Place your trust in me.
Remember that before you aquire me.

    IV

Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your friends, and your entertainment.
I ONLY HAVE YOU!

    V

Talk to me sometimes.
Even if I don't understand your words.
I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.
Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget.

    VI

Remember before you hit me that I have teeth than can easily crush the bones in your hand,
but I choose NOT TO BITE YOU.

    VII

Before you scold me for being uncooperative,
obstinate, or lazy,
ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I don't understand what you ask of me or perhaps I am not feeling well,
not getting the right food,
been out in the sun too long,
or my heart is getting old and weak.

    VIII

Take care of me when I get old,
you too will grow old.

    IX

Go with me on difficult journeys.
Never say "I can't bear to watch" or "let it happen in my absence".
EVERYTHING IS EASIER IF YOU ARE THERE.

    X

REMEMBER I LOVE YOU!

In the story "10 promises", they reworded some of the commandments above but basically the meaning is all there. Gosh, even as I read the poem again, my eyes are misting up again.

I truly recommend this movie to all pet owners (especially doggie owners like JW of My Random Thoughts, Jean (boss to Jake), Mumsey (my Daiso friend), Fishman of Fishdiary Resurrection, che-cheh, Angie of Chasing Tails) and all the rest of you. If you already love your doggies, after watching this movie, your doggies will become your world and you will want to throw out the spouse and the kids.

Tempt Fate, Cheat Death - The Coffin

Picture taken from TheStarOnLine - Courtesy of The Coffin producer

Last nite was the eve of Halloween and guess what? Just for the heck of it, I went to watch "The Coffin" with Tobiyama. I actually had very little clue as to what the show was going to be about except for the fact that it would have something to do with a coffin. Boy, was I wrong. There were a whole bunch of coffins in the show.

The show started with a girl in a coffin and sure enough, a thing that most of us dread when we see a corpse in a coffin do is for the corpse to open its eyes and make a grab for us. Sure enough, the corpse did open her eyes and a beautiful pair of eyes at that. She is not dead. In fact, she was introducing to the audience a true Thai ritual of lying in coffins to get rid of bad luck and to prolong life. And so starts the supernatural thriller about a young man and a young woman who decided to go through this ritual with very personal objectives of doing it.

Extracted from The Coffin's official website.....

Chris, a claustrophobic architect does it in the hope of saving his fiancée who's dying of terminal cancer. Sue, a nutritionist visiting Thailand from Hong Kong does it to save her own life after being diagnosed with a lethal brain tumor - one week before her wedding.

After the ritual, Chris and Sue experience what appear to be miracles in their respective lives. But soon, they find themselves confronted by a series of bizarre and terrifying incidents. With the help of a professor specializing in paranormal cases associated with the ritual, they set out to exorcise the ghosts that haunt them, and attempt to reverse the wheel of karma.

Thrilling, mysterious and ultimately moving, The Coffin is a spine-chilling horror about the beauty of life and death, and coming to face to face with living and dying.

The casts includes Karen Mok, Ananda Everingham (quite a hottie), Andrew Lim, Aki Shibuya, Kapakpapha Kakprasitte.

This is quite an interesting watch.. even though quite a lot of what I saw was seen between my fingers which were covering my eyes. Actually, it was not really that scary (sure, now that it is broad daylight), it is just that dread of seeing dead people in your closets and that every time you watch Karen or Ananda turn around, some dead girl and guy is sure to jump out.

Go watch it, especially if you are quite sick of all those macho stuff like Bangkok Dangerous or Maxie Pane hero type shows. I would rate it a 6/10.

Old Movies and Rainy Days throws up Richard Pryor

As you know, it has been kind of a rainy weekend and having really no place to go, I decided to clean out my stacks of old VCDs. Have not really had a good look at these for a long time, since the day the DVD came in and the VCDs took a back seat.

As I was going through the stack, I realize that there have been quite a number of good actors which are no longer with us today. One of them is Richard Pryor. He passed away in 2005. He was really one of those comedians who only had to appear on a show without many lines and still be able to make me laugh.

I still have VCDs of his "See No Evil" and "Superman III". Wanted to play them but I think I must have left them in a damp place as there some bits off it seemed to have grown moulds. Dare not it into the player for fear of spoiling it. But I am sure I will be able to find these in the local DVD shops for I believe that they are truly classics :)

Plot taken from Wiki " Richard Pryor plays a blind man named Wally Karue and Gene Wilder plays a deaf man named Dave Lyons. They meet in Dave's shop, where Wally wants to get a job. After a few complications, Dave hires him. As Wally goes outside to get the newspapers for Dave, a man (Wally's bookie) comes in and asks Dave for some antacid (Dave reads lips). Playing for some time to hide a valuable coin, the man asks Dave to read the back of the packet to him. As Dave is reading it, the man slips the coin in a cigar box (for tips), hoping that nobody would find it. After he does it, a tall lady dressed in red comes looking for the coin. While Dave is reading, she shoots the bookie when he fails to give it to her. She slips away and disappears out of sight. Dave didn't hear the gunshot and Wally didn't see anybody but he heard the gunshot. Soon after finding that there is a dead man on the floor and with Dave holding the murder weapon, the two of them are put into jail for questioning. Wally and Dave become the prime suspects and the police refuse to believe them. The two then cunningly escape from the police station. On the run from the law, they are also tracked by the real killers, played by Joan Severance and Kevin Spacey, who want the gold coin in their possession. Dave and Wally must be each other's eyes and ears to stop the criminals and clear their names."

One Knight to Rule them all

3 movies within the last few days.. sounds like a movie marathon to me... actually, it was 2 ok movies and 1 "fantastic beyond words" movie.

The first of the lot which I watched was Hell Boy II - The Golden Army. The story was simple however some parts were rather ridiculous. The part where fishboy went all "lembek" over the elf girl. Hey.. she does not even look anywhere like a fish and geez... even my Aunt Bebe looks more fishy than her..opps...luckily Aunt Bebe does not read blogs. The most disappointing bit for me was the elves. Hey.. what happened to good looking elves who takes the forms of Legolas or Elrond and beautiful Arwen and Galadriel from Lord of The Rings?? The brother and sister pair Nuada and Nuala looked like vampires with very bad skins. But overall, luckily for the entire movie's visual effects, I give it a 6+/10.

Actually I only watched this next one as I missed the earlier screening of The Dark Night and the next one was at 1:00am (ouch.. not nocturnal lah). Since there was nothing else I really wanted to watch, decided to try "Journey to the Center of the Earth". The storyline was pretty interesting as I have never really read the book before. Don't know why I have always mistaken the story for the Allan Quatemain's King's Solomon's Mine with this story... two totally different story. Well, this was a very short movie but like I said, it was pretty interesting to me. Throughout the entire movie, I kept hoping that Max was still alive and also wondering how they were going to surface back to ground zero. Also realized that Brendan Fraser does look "goofy" most of the time in the movie... just like how one radio DJ's advertised this movie the last couple of weeks ago. I would rate this a 7/10

I am so glad to have left the best movie for last. Went to watch The Dark Knight yesterday and it was really the best movie I have watched for a long time. Normally I am one who refuse (most of the time) to watch movies which have been given rave reviews or have won some kind of award but this was one exception that I am so glad I made. It was really a pleasure to watch all those characters from the comic books coming to life. Villains like the Joker and Two Face looked like they literally stepped out from the comic books. Jack's Joker and Tommy Lee's Two Face really have been a far cry from that of Heath's Joker and Aaron's Two Face and this is not just the looks department but also the acting department. But back then, we didn't know any better..haha. And ...Batman Bruce Wayne..played by the tall, lean and handsome Christian Bale ... I have already forgotten who all the other Batmen of yesteryears... but I think Bruce looked a little bit to thin and gaunt in this sequel. He looks hotter in the 1st movie. But getting back to the movie... the excitement came wave after wave and I was sitting at the edge of my seat wanting it to go on and on... The batsuit, the batmobile, the batpod... WOW!!! It is a beautiful movie, albeit some sad parts but that is the way things has to be ... all superheroes .. are destined to be alone.... (maybe the only exception so far is Spidey).. so that the rest of us females can dream on believing that we are his one true love....buahaha...

This definitely takes my cupcake, a definite 10/10.... so good that I might go watch it again and again............ and again.

Thank you Nuffnang :)

I just want to say thank you to Nuffnang for the tickets to watch Hancock the movie last nite. Mum says that it is rude not to say thank you to the person who gave you gifts :).

I have never been to the Cathay Cineplex Damansara before... talk about the country bumpkin from the city :). I was actually a bit lost when I got there. Rather undecided whether to park at the Curve or not but saw the carpark signage at Cineleisure as I turned the corner. Managed to find a carpark space, which according to my friend Jean, was quite lucky. It is sometimes quite difficult to find a carpark there.

As I got out of the basement carpark, I was unsure where to go next. So, decided to just take the escalator up to the higher floors. Never been to a cinema lower than the 2nd or 3rd floor of a complex :).

After reaching the 2nd floor, still no sign of the cinemas. Thought I could smell popcorn... perhaps my nose can lead me there. As I was about to turn towards the next set of escalators, I saw this extremely tall "mat salleh" aka kwai low aka Caucasian man. Why, it was none other than Shaolin Tiger, the blogger. Have never met the guy personally but have visited his blog occasionally. So, I tailed him all the way to the cinemas. Ha Ha.. thanks shaolin tiger :).

Picked up the tickets from the counter with Nuffnang banners. I think the cutie manning the booth must be Robb.

Whilst waiting for Jean to turn up, tried to look around to see if I can spot any bloggers that I might know. But couldn't pick them up as I have not attended any of the other Nuffnang's parties. Maybe I would the next time. Thanks again Nuffnang for inviting me to your private screening of Hancock, the Movie.

Sepi, The MOVIE

I have always got a soft spot for our local Malaysian performing artistes, whether they are actors, singers, dancers or whatever. One of my favorite local male actors is definitely Afdlin Shauki. Apparently he is also a musician too but I think I know him better from his movies and TV shows. Plus his appearances in the Actorlympics stage performances. Never fails to put a smile on my face with his works. Watched his Sumolah in the cinema and later bought the VCD from Speedy to watch again. Thoroughly enjoyed that one :).

His latest movie Sepi's trailer was shown on NTV7 almost 2 weekends ago and I have already decided then that I wanted to watch this movie. Whilst at Min's place last Sunday, they were also playing the trailer on TV9. Finally managed to catch it yesterday nite.

The story talks about the lives of 3 individuals in the city, their views and perspectives on love, life and loneliness. Each life if viewed on its own is nothing spectacular, it is probably not even interesting to say the least. But, having the lives of these 3 individuals meet at a highly explosive moment in time makes it all come together. The way the entire story was weaved together is achieving the tapestry of life which another movie tried to do "Jarum Halus" but which failed totally. Nearly wanted to walk of that one, but as there were only a total of 4 people (me included) watching the show, didn't want to be mean about it, so, forced myself to sit through to the end.

I was still thinking about the show this morning as I was coming to work and I realize that there is a movie with a similar theme about different people whose lives have never crossed, and may never cross again, except for that one moment. That movie if I am not mistake is "Babel" staring Brad Pitt.

I would say I truly enjoyed watching Sepi and if Min is reading this, must watch Min... so many facets to life being depicted in this movie. Will wait for the VCD to come out :)

Not Your Average Super Hero

Now isn't it wonderful that Nuffnang is organizing an Exclusive Private Screening of Hancock. I have been eagerly awaiting this one as I have this secret ambition of becoming a Super Hero myself :).What makes a person a hero? Well, I should think most heroes are naturally brave, smart, and strong. It also helps if good looks are also thrown in.

What makes a hero a super hero? First you must qualify as a hero and then if you have some abnormal abilities, then you are on your way to qualifying as a super hero. I went to check the definition of a Super hero in Wikipedia and in short, the definition of a super hero is “A fictional character who is noted for feats of courage and nobility, who usually possesses abilities beyond those of normal human”. I think the key word here is “fictional character”.

Hey.. that is not fair.. I want to be a super hero too but wait a minute, what is there to stop myself from declaring myself as a super hero?? …mmm.. now.. if I were a super hero, what will I call myself…

Wonder Woman - nope.. boobs not big enough

Bat Girl – what and hang out with a ding bat of a partner???

Cat Woman – meow.. having to be catty and not being able to enjoy it as it is an expected trait...what a letdown

Princess Leia – wei!! What super qualities does she have…besides being a fictional character with donut shaped hair-do? JCo or Big Apple’s likely to fight for her to be their ambassador cum mascot

Super Girl – nah.. that name is best suited to my boss’ secretary. She sure has super human patience to work under a boss like ours

I know… I would call myself …. HAN-HEN, the female version of HAN-COCK. I am sure that if given half the chance, I can save the world, take care of all the bad folks but only thing is I am also a klutz… so says my mum…cannot even be trusted to carry her chicken stew from the kitchen to the dining table without tripping and tipping over the entire bowl, thus making everyone eat rice with fried egg for dinner …yah..that's me.

Well, did Hancock in the end learn how to safe the world without leave a trail of damage?? I cannot wait to find out.. so, please Nuffnang...*using my super persuasive powers* to convince the Nuffnang team......

A little rain must fall in everyone's life....

These are the famous words of wisdom uttered whenever things don't go too smoothly with life...but yesterday, I was at the movies and this RAIN...I don't mind if this RAIN kept falling into my life...everyday heehee.

I was feeling very tired from work the last few days...meetings after meetings and the work after each meeting was really weighing me down. So, yesterday to forget the stress of work, I went to watch a movie with Tobiyama. Actually, I also had an ulterior motive too.. I wanted to collect the Prince Caspian glass which GSC (Golden Screen Cinema) is offering as a promotional item from starting from 8th May 2008 until 4th June 2008. Got the 1st one already, Prince Caspian himself :)

Back to the movie I watched last night. It was Speed Racer. Actually to tell you the truth, there was not much of a choice as I have already watched Iron Man the Movie and Forbidden Kingdom. I am not a horror movie fan and none of the Chinese movies appealed. So, when I agreed to go for Speed Racer, I didn't have any expectations at all.

It was a rather interesting movie actually. I had no idea that it was going to be a Roger Rabbit kind of movie.. real life people with cartoonish backdrops. No cartoon characters here but a lot of the other stuff are quite unreal. The movie is actually adapted from a Japanese cartoon (back then, hardly anyone used the term anime) about racing. There is so much to read from Wiki if one is interested but I have never seen this cartoon but the music sounded somewhat familiar. Not sure where I have heard it but it is rather catchy.

Speed Race Soundtrack

The movie was entertaining. As I didn't really know who was acting in the show, to my delight, the first familiar face in the movie was Susan Sarandon. She is one of my favorite actors ever. She is Mom Racer (Speed Racer's Mom and she is one cool mom).

The 2nd familiar actor was John Goodman (Pop Racer). If you were to google him, you'll find that he has appeared in loads of movies. To me, he will always be Fred Flinstone ..

Then came Rain, Jeong Ji-hoon the Korean singer, actor. Wah.. this movie is getting better and better :). Wah... he very "chun" lah.. in his racer costume.. real eye candy for the girls (*grin).

Rain in his world tour

Rain in his racer suit in Speed Racer

To round it off, when Racer X unmasked himself, it was Matthew Fox. For those who have been following LOST, he is good old Doc Jack Shepherd.

Mmm.. what an interesting cast plus the movie is rather entertaining too. Worth every dollar for the ticket, as I didn't ever blink my eyes haha (unlike Forbidden Kingdom but a little kid was snoring away, 2 seats away from me...but he is only about 3 years old).

Go catch this with the family over the weekend. Highly entertaining :).

IRONMAN vs JET LI/JACKIE CHAN

I didn't really do much baking or cooking over the last few days. Was feeling rather lazy. Instead of spending the evenings baking, I spent most of them at the cinema. I watched Iron Man and The Forbidden Kingdom.

Iron Man was very exciting and even though I am not really that much of a comic fan, I totally enjoyed the show. Before Iron Man, I think the only other Man(s) I knew were Spiderman, Batman and Superman. Now, one more Man on my list.

However, I was quite disappointed with The Forbidden Kingdom. Even though the movie boasted of 2 mega Kung Fu Stars in the form of Jackie Chan and Jet Li, it was supposed to be a fast paced and highly interesting. But sadly, I actually fell asleep at least twice during the movie. Sigh...yeah... I might have been sleepy as I was watching the 11:10pm show, but I watched Iron Man even later, at 11:50pm.

I went into Rotten Tomatoes's website this morning just to find out if there were others who shared the same view as I have on the 2 movies and hey.. I am of the same opinion as the majority of the movie goers. Iron Man has all the new moves, whilst Forbidden is all the same old stuff. I had the feeling that they were just selling Jet Li and Jackie Chan and that was where it all stopped. Watching the Forbidden movie was really a yawn from start to end.

Iron Man rated 94% whilst The Forbidden Kingdom rated 62%.

Iron Man & Hell Boy

I was at the movies a couple of weeks back to watch Spiderwick's Chronicles and Nim's Island and got to watch the trailers for Iron Man and Hell Boy II - The Golden Army. I know it is likely that I will be watching both but I have a feeling I will enjoy Hell Boy just that little bit more. Just a feeling but I suppose after watching the trailer, Hell Boy movie seems a lot darker and more "filling" visually. Oh well, to each his own. What about you? Are you going to watch any, if not both? Have a go at the trailers below.

How to choose which movie to watch?

There are so many interesting shows in the cinemas at the moment and the choices were quite varied. I actually wanted to go watch Vantage Point but didn't realize that when a movie is running its last leg at the cinemas, their show times are very limited. After dinner, I went out with a friend to Sunway Pyramid TGV hoping to catch Vantage Point but found out that there was only one show and if I am not mistaken, it already showed at 6:45pm. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to get the DVD for that.

Since we are there already, might as well choose something else to watch. We went through the screening times... haha.. you guessed it. We actually selected the movie to watch based on the most convenient screening time, and not the show it self. There was Spiderwick Chronicles (but tickets were all sold out except for the 11:55pm show, an it was only 9:10pm..sigh..), Ah Long Pte Ltd (9:20pm but it is in Hokkien....mmm), Horton Hears a Who (9:20pm), Minotaur (9:20am but the ticketing guy told us that his friends saw it and definitely do not recommend it...SIGH!)...so, never mind, the people in the queue is already throwing dagger stares at us...decided to take a chance on 10,000BC.

It turned out pretty interesting, at least for me. The critics (extract from Wikipedia) were reportedly to have given this movie terrible reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has reported that 9% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 83 reviews. Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 37 out of 100, based on 25 reviews .

Main lead -Steven Strait as D'Leh, a mammoth hunter.

Main Lead - Camilla Belle as Evolet, D'Leh's love and the survivor of a different tribe that was killed by the "four legged demons". While kidnapped, her hand was whipped, forming a scar in the shape of the "hunter"

One of the supporting leads - the Sabre Tooth Tiger

The photos were obtained from The Internet Movie Database site.

At least the scenery shots must have been its saving grace ... the barren land, the thick snow caps, the lush tropical forest and the never ending desert. Actually, not bad lah.. I would have given it a 7 1/2 out of 10.

Looking forward to watching these shows soon

I was surfing around the various blogs reading these bloggers' reviews about some of the shows that are currently in the cinemas. So, far, I have picked these 3 as the DEFINITELY TO WATCH ones for me.

Starting off with Jarum Halus. The story is basically about Friendship, Love, Jealousy, Suspicion, Betrayal and Murder. Read the synopsis in detailed and felt that the plot is rather interesting. Support local productions ... yeah.

This is the official clip of Jarum Halus.

The next one that I would like to watch is a rather strange one.. a typical Edward Scissor hand type show... of course, by the same actor.. Johnny Depp..Sweeney Todd. NEVER FORGET. NEVER FORGIVE.... brrrrr. Went to check out the official website and found the soundtrack to be quite good. This is starting to look a little bit like a musical.. a Moulin Rouge type.. perhaps much heavier.

CJ7... now this is going to be a slightly different one from Steven Chow. He claims that this is not his typical slapstick type of flick. This I really got to see wor.. haha..Hard to imagine him not doing slapstick comedy.

Not too much chance of catching them this weekend as I will be attending a Feng Shui seminar again this Sunday. Maybe next week.. just before the CNY. BTW, CJ7 will only be aired starting the 1st day of CNY. Will post my verdict of these shows after I've watched them... but for the time being.. they do look very promising :)

Trying to keep Mr Sandman away

Gosh.. I knew this was going to happen... trying to beat of the zzzz.. is so difficult. Was asked to join my colleagues at the Yong Tau Foo place at Jalan Tun HS Lee. This was actually blogged by Patrick some time back. Since Gluttony is one of my biggest and deadliest Sin.. I had to be true to myself. So I ordered 10 pieces and stuffed them all in and topping it up with a glass of iced chinese tea. Now, I feel like I am going to even fall asleep even while standing up.

Decided to "steal" some office time and surf abit. Looked up the movies that were coming up and ticked off some as "I want to see them at the Cinemas and NOT on DVDs" films.

Topping off the list will be Resident Evil.
Resident Evil: Extinction is again based on the wildly popular video game series and picks up where the last film left off. Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke ) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead…and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.

The Seeker:The Dark is Rising
Based on the acclaimed novel by Susan Cooper, THE DARK IS RISING is the first movie adaptation of the author's acclaimed The Dark Is Rising Sequence. The movie tells the story of Will Stanton, a normal young man who moves with his family from America to an English village There he learns he is the last of a group of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. Traveling back and forth through time, Will discovers a series of clues and Six mysterious Signs which lead him into a showdown with forces of unimaginable power. With the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in Will's hands.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
Good friends Chuck Levine and Larry Valentine are firefighters. Victims of circumstance, Chuck has to claim Larry to be his domestic partner on some city forms in order to beat some procedural red tape. They think it will be easy because nobody will ever know. After Chuck agrees, the two men go to Niagara Falls to get married, and Chuck moves in with Larry and his unsuspecting kids. However, an official becomes suspicious, and the new couple's arrangement goes from confidential to front-page news. Forced to improvise as love-struck newlyweds, Chuck and Larry must now fumble through a charade of domestic bliss under one roof. After surviving their mandatory honeymoon and dodging the threat of exposure, the well-intentioned conmen discover that sticking together in times of crisis is what truly makes a family.

Those in the pipeline would include

The Magic Gourd
A chance encounter with a magic gourd turns 10-year-old schoolboy Wang Bao's life upside down. Granting him anything he wants - from being the fastest swimmer to getting all the toys in the toy shop - the magic gourd enables Wang Bao to fulfil his dreams of doing nothing and getting everything. It's everything a boy could ever want...until Wang Bao gets into far more trouble than he has bargained for.

Disney's Enchanted
The tale follows the beautiful princess Giselle as she is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land--and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn''t operate on a "happily ever after" basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid--even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home--she has to wonder: can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

The Golden Compass

Based on author Philip Pullman's bestselling and award-winning novel, The Golden Compass tells the first story in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people's souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who's been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well.

Just to name a few :)
